Straplocks - Who Needs Them?

Author: guitartrends  //  Category: straplocks

I have a Fender Strat Plus, which came with Schaller straplocks.  I bought the guitar used, so I only had the Schaller strap buttons on the guitar, not the female ends that attach to the guitar strap.

I found that, without the proper fastener on my guitar strap, the Strat would sometimes fall off its strap.  Scary!  Soon I set out to buy the Schaller fasteners, and I discovered that Schaller only sells the full kit, not just the guitar strap ends.  That was mildly annoying.  I later realized that changing straps would now be a bit if a hassle, so I always use the strap with the Schaller straplocks on my Strat Plus.

There are at least 5 straplock systems out there: Dunlop; Ernie Ball; Hennesy; Q Parts; and Schaller (aka Fender).  All of them require removing the strap pins in your electric guitar and screwing in a new set. This can potentially devalue your guitar.  It also pretty much marries your guitar, to a guitar strap.

I have a couple of guitars with small strap pins, such as my Gibson Billie Joe Armstrong Les Paul Junior.  I simply make sure that any strap I use with that guitar has really tight slits for the guitar pins.

Anyone else out there have experience using straplocks?
