Folks who are serious about playing guitar better, practice playing guitar.  I have read many interviews with famous guitar players, and all of them say you have to practice guitar, to get good at playing guitar.  Most people reading this blog, understand this aspect of guitar playing.

This is one electric guitar trend that will never go away. If you want to get good at playing electric guitar, you have to practice playing guitar a lot. Period.

Like many of you, I practice guitar everyday and I try to play guitar better everyday.

Here is what I have learned:

1. You should start by tuning your guitar. ‘Nuff said.

2. There is a difference between noodling, and practicing guitar.  Strumming along with a song on MTV, or your favourite MP3 is great fun, but it does not count for much as guitar practicing goes sorry.

3. Guitar strings need 15 minutes to warm up. See #2 above for a way to spend this time.

4. Learning new material - be focused.  If you are not thinking about each chord and note in that new song while you practice it, why bother?

5. Listen.  Seriously, does the music sound good?

6. Sounds good enough?  Umm … I think it’s for an audience to decide.
