Top 10 Effects Pedals, Week 27, 2009
Author: guitartrends // Category: pedals, top sellersI was expecting to see mostly distortion pedals in a Top 10 list, but that was not the case. Here are the Top 10 electric guitar effects pedals, for Week 27, 2009.
- Boss RC-2 Loop Station
- MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay
- Dunlop Original Crybaby Wah
- ISP Technologies Decimator Noise Reduction Pedal
- Boss RC-20XL Loop Station
- DigiTech JamMan Looper
- Line 6 DL4 Delay
- Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue
- Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost
- Line 6 JM4 Guitar Looper

A friend demo’d his RC-2 Loop Station for me the other day. While there is a steep learning curve with the RC-2, the looping/overdubbing features and sound are excellent. I liked the drum machine, as well as the Signal Activate feature. This pedal could be used on the fly, in a live situation.

The MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay pedal came out just over a year ago, and it appears to be a big success. MXR uses analog circuitry for a vintage sound.

Most guys own a baseball glove, a pool cue, and a wah pedal. Never know when you’re gonna need one. This pedal’s origins date back to the first wah’s in the mid 1960’s.

I suppose it’s ironic that we need noise reduction pedals, to reduce the noise created by our pedals. This ISP unit is number five on the list.

The Boss RC-20XL Loop Station is similar in features to the RC-2, but is designed more for live situations where you use your foot to make changes.

The famous JamMan has been updated. This pedal has many features, including long recording times with a CF card.

The Line 6 DL4 Delay has been around for several years now. A few users have commented on having to make warranty claims.

Finally! A distortion pedal on the list! The original TS808 Tube Screamer used a particular chip, the JRC4558, that was out of production for several years. Now, Ibanez claims they are back with the real thing.

The only other distortion pedal on the list, the Fulltone Fulldrive2 has 2 switchable channels with several settings for greater flexibility.

The Line 6 JM4 Guitar Looper comes with over 200 professional backing tracks to play along with. You can also import WAV files into the JM4.
So, what are the trends here? I see a trend towards vintage sounds, and also a trend towards new technology for delay sounds and looping.

I was also expecting to see a list of mostly distortion pedals. I think there are a lot of players who use loopers to practice on their own.

The lack of distortion pedal top sellers might be that there are MANY more distortion pedal models than loops and good delay pedals.
